On Saturday, 6th December, Carmarthen Livestock Market played host to one of the most anticipated events in the Welsh pedigree calendar โ the Welsh Multibreed Pedigree Calf Show. As proud sponsors, we at Pembrokeshire Farm Vets were delighted to support a day that showcased the very best of Welsh livestock breeding, community spirit, and future farming talent.
A Showcase of Quality and Dedication
The atmosphere at Carmarthen was electric from the moment the gates opened. Breeders from across Wales & the UK brought forward an exceptional line-up of calves representing a wide range of pedigree breeds, including Welsh Blacks, Limousin, Charolais, Longhorns, and Hereford. Each animal reflected the hard work, skill, and passion that underpins farming across Wales & the wider UK.
The show provided a platform for breeders to demonstrate not only the quality of their stock but also their commitment to genetics, health, and welfare. For us as farm vets, these values resonate deeply with our mission to support sustainable, high-performing herds across the region.
Supporting the Next Generation
One of the highlights of the day was seeing so many young handlers take to the ring with confidence and enthusiasm. The junior classes were a testament to the bright future of Welsh agriculture, with young farmers demonstrating exceptional stockmanship and pride in their animals. Mr Seimon Thomas, the judge of the Young Handler Classes had a difficult but pleasing task, stating โThey are all winners, and the future of farming is safe with the enthusiasm shown by these youngsters todayโ. At Pembrokeshire Farm Vets, we believe in investing in the next generation, and events like this are vital for nurturing skills and passion that will carry the industry forward.
Judging and Results
The standard across all classes was outstanding, making the judgesโ task a challenging one. After much deliberation, the Supreme Native Champion title was awarded to a striking Hereford that impressed with its conformation, presence, and potential. Supreme Continental Champion went to a superb British Blue, showcasing the breedโs renowned muscle development and growth traits.
Special mention must go to the exhibitors who travelled long distances to attend, and to those who achieved success in the highly competitive breed classes. Every entry reflected months of dedication, from careful breeding decisions to meticulous preparation for the show ring.
